Overview
Unfortunately, our planned visit to the Jalasjärvi roller ski track was cut short by a sign at the entrance stating: “Shooting range area – unauthorized access prohibited. Danger to life.”
As a result, we were unable to access the facility and therefore could not evaluate the track ourselves.
This is the first roller ski/biathlon venue we have encountered where public access was not possible. In our experience, even internationally renowned biathlon venues, e.g. Oberhof or Otepää, have allowed access to the roller ski tracks when no shooting activities were taking place.
From our perspective, restricting access in this way does little to encourage participation in roller skiing and biathlon. Publicly accessible training facilities play an important role in helping more people discover and enjoy the sport.
