Overview

Vimpeli’s roller ski track is a biathlon track that offers a surprisingly varied training experience despite receiving only minimal maintenance. The track is kept rideable, but the forest is gradually reclaiming its territory, and some sections already feel rather rustic.

The large, flat stadium area is particularly useful for beginners. It provides plenty of space to get comfortable on roller skis, practise starts and stops, and work on technique without having to deal with hills or demanding corners.

Away from the stadium, the track includes a continuous climb of around 15 metres. While the elevation gain is modest, the sustained nature of the climb can make it quite aerobically demanding, especially when repeated several times.

There are two main loops to choose from. The longer loop provides more distance while keeping the technical demands relatively low, making it a good option for endurance-oriented training. The sprint loop, on the other hand, is shorter and more technical. It features a distinctive bowl turn, where the shape of the corner allows you to carry more speed while putting your steering skills to the test.

Overall, Vimpeli is a modest but versatile roller ski venue. The combination of a beginner-friendly stadium, a sustained climb, and two different loops makes it useful for both technique work and harder training sessions, although the limited maintenance is becoming increasingly noticeable.
